
Location
Kingston, Surrey (Base location: Hogsmill Sewage Treatment Works). This role requires travel to multiple sites depending on project requirements. A full driving licence, access to a vehicle, and insurance for work travel are essential. A monthly car allowance is provided.
Hours
Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.
Salary
Up to £60,000 per annum, depending on experience and skills, plus £4,500 car allowance.
About the Role
This role seeks a self-motivated candidate to manage engineering projects end-to-end across Thames Water’s Sewage Treatment operational sites and estate. You will manage all aspects of CAPEX projects, including initial scoping, competitive tendering, contractor procurement, site setup and inductions, health and safety inspections, commissioning, training, and handover to operations teams. The internal job title for this role is ‘Project Engineer’ within the Capital Maintenance Project Team.
- Manage and deliver a portfolio of Mechanical, Electrical, and ICA projects, typically valued between £100,000 and £1 million per project.
- Responsible for multiple live projects simultaneously, with additional projects in scoping and tendering phases.
- Develop innovative and modern solutions to operational problems, improving site efficiency and delivering value for money.
- Collaborate with operations teams and contractors to scope, define, and cost cost-effective, low-risk solutions.
- Oversee a zero-compromise health and safety policy for all project personnel, including monthly audits.
- Ensure construction complies with in-house policies, wider industry standards, and CDM regulations.
- Work collaboratively with delivery partners and contractors to ensure timely scheme delivery.
- Maintain compliance with Asset Standards, British & International Standards, and professional codes of conduct.
- Perform financial forecasting and reporting on the value of work done (VOWD) for all live projects.
- Draft, vet, and approve pre-construction information, project programs, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), and construction phase plans (CPP).
- Oversee commissioning, training, and handover of completed projects to operations teams.
- Ensure completion documents, including test certificates, operation and maintenance manuals, health and safety files, and as-constructed drawings, are available and handed over.
Experience
- Background in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering.
- Experience in Construction or Engineering Project Management.
- Knowledge of Clean Water Processing and/or Wastewater Treatment.
- Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders including internal colleagues, site employees, and external contractors.
- Understanding of Health and Safety standards related to construction works, including CDM regulations (additional training provided).

Qualifications
- Formal qualifications in relevant engineering disciplines are strongly encouraged.
- Ideally hold at least a BTEC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or related fields.
- A full driving licence is required due to travel between sites.
