About the Role
SLR’s well established water team offers expert services across hydrology, hydrogeology, water resources, geochemistry, flood risk and drainage. Our clients span sectors including renewable energy, mining and minerals, energy networks, industry and the built environment. Due to increasing workload, we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated graduate consultant to join our busy London team. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience across a broad range of projects throughout the UK and Ireland.
Working alongside the existing team and with support from senior colleagues, you will be involved in:
- Identifying site constraints relevant to the water environment to inform planning of new development sites
- Undertaking technical risk-based assessments such as Flood Risk Assessments, demonstrating understanding of hydrological site settings, the wider environment and flooding mechanisms
- Interpreting numerical data and calculating hydrological processes including in-channel flows, surface water runoff and infiltration rates
- Outlining sustainable management of surface water runoff from new developments, including sizing and siting of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) to prevent contamination and reduce flood risk
- Contributing to preparation of reports such as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) water chapters, identifying potential risks to the water environment
- Undertaking site visits to understand topography, ground conditions and identify watercourses and environmental factors
The role may occasionally require site work away from home for short periods. A full UK driver’s licence and access to a vehicle would be beneficial due to some remote site locations.
Experience
Familiarity with the water environment, hydrology, flood risk, fluvial geomorphology through modules, coursework or relevant work experience. Experience using GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and strong IT skills.
About you
Strong numerical, written and verbal communication skills. A desire to learn, problem solve and work independently when required. Willingness to work within multi-disciplinary teams and meet deadlines. Enthusiastic and motivated to develop a career in hydrology and environmental consultancy.
Qualifications
A relevant Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering or similar. A relevant Master’s degree or postgraduate qualification focusing on the water environment, hydrology, flood risk or fluvial geomorphology would be advantageous. A full UK driver’s licence is desirable.
