About the Role
Due to continued business growth, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Ecologist to join our ecology team in a Senior Field role. You will play a lead role in undertaking and delivering a range of projects across our business sectors, particularly Renewables and Built Environment. This role offers responsibility for delivering ecology inputs to large and complex projects.
SLR has approximately 200 ecologists across the UK and Ireland, providing expert advice on ecological and environmental issues affecting diverse habitats and protected species. Licensed team members work with great crested newts, bats, badgers, dormice and reptiles. We maintain strong working relationships with Natural England, the Wildlife Trust, Natural Resources Wales and Scottish Natural Heritage.
The role involves field surveys and mitigation projects relating to ornithology, protected and notable mammals, and habitats. Opportunities may also include herpetofauna, fish habitat and invertebrate surveys. Responsibilities may include managing ecological aspects of projects, advising clients and contractors in power, built environment and infrastructure sectors, preparing fee proposals and scopes of work, report writing and technical review of peer and sub-contractor reports.
You will supervise and mentor ecology staff, potentially including staff management and leading site work on ecological specialisms. You will schedule, manage and ensure delivery of ecological survey work packages on time and budget. Collaboration with other SLR technical teams such as planning, landscape, hydrology, noise and air quality is essential, working closely with senior ecology team members across offices.
The role requires significant travel and time away from home, with survey work in all weather conditions and occasionally remote locations. Long days may be required for fieldwork, with paid overtime or time off in lieu/flexible working offered to support work-life balance.
