About the Role
Masdar, the UAE’s clean energy champion, is seeking a Grid Manager to deliver the end-to-end grid connection process for the UK Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) portfolio, with additional support to global offshore wind projects as required. This role involves managing grid connection applications, Grid Connection Offers, coordinating technical studies, and ensuring compliance with G99 and Grid Code requirements. You will work closely with internal teams including development, construction, and procurement, as well as external stakeholders such as DNOs, Transmission Owners (TOs), NGESO, Ofgem, and technical consultants.

This position offers hands-on experience across grid connection contracts, power system studies, and regulatory engagement, contributing to the successful delivery of strategic energy infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage BESS grid connection applications and offers, advising on technical and commercial implications.
- Support early development of BESS projects by analysing connection options, costs, and programme impacts.
- Collaborate with construction teams to ensure power system design compliance and grid integration.
- Review grid compliance study reports and test results, managing interfaces with grid operators.
- Participate in industry forums and consultations to stay informed and represent Masdar’s interests.
- Monitor and interpret key policy and regulatory developments affecting grid connection and energy markets.
- Support offshore wind grid connection activities and manage subcontractors and external consultants.
- Oversee grid-related costs, governance, risk management, and quality assurance processes.

Experience
- 5 to 7 years in power generation, distribution, or transmission industry.
- Proven track record in grid connection and compliance of renewable energy assets.
- Strong commercial understanding of the UK grid market, especially DNO connections.
- Experience managing large-scale infrastructure projects.

Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.

Job-Specific Skills
- In-depth knowledge of grid connection processes at distribution and transmission voltages for BESS and renewable energy.
- Solid understanding of UK Distribution & Transmission System regulations and stakeholders.
- Proficient in power system analysis and tools (RMS, EMT), including load flow, short circuit, harmonic, flicker, insulation coordination, and G99/Grid Code compliance.
- Ability to review power system analysis reports and test results to identify modelling and control system issues.
- Familiarity with various BESS OEMs and BOP contractors.
- Contract administration and legal knowledge.
- Knowledge of traditional energy industry and strategic grid planning.
