About the Role
The HSE Compliance Manager plays a crucial role in maintaining high standards around Health, Safety, and Environmental matters, which are key objectives within BT's corporate strategy. Managing BT's diverse and geographically spread property estate of approximately 8,000 sites across the UK, this role addresses various HSE risks to safeguard colleagues and the broader community. You will be responsible for managing hazardous substances such as Asbestos, Legionella, Radon, and ensuring compliance with Environmental and general Health & Safety regulations to meet legal and moral obligations. This role involves proactive engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including strategic alliance partners, to effectively manage risks and deliver high-risk HSE programmes and workstreams. You will continuously identify improvement opportunities and ensure all required standards are met, providing assurance to the business. Your work will support BT's HSE and welfare objectives, enhance the company’s brand, and maintain its ability to do business with key customers.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of HSE compliance frameworks, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Build and manage the HSE management system to underpin effective governance across all compliance workstreams.
- Drive compliance assurance for high-risk HSE programmes such as Radon, Legionella, Flat Roofs, Waste Water, Asbestos, and Environmental management.
- Use management information to identify risks and trends, informing strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with internal teams, strategic alliance partners (e.g., CBRE, HSE consultants), and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Ensure all HSE policies and procedures are current, effective, and aligned with statutory and business requirements.
- Lead the integration of HSE into transformational and operational strategies, promoting a safety-first culture through training, communication, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven ability to identify straightforward solutions to improve HSE management.
- Experience engaging effectively with internal and external stakeholders to drive performance and raise awareness of waste and natural environment controls.
- Strong understanding and application of relevant regulatory and assurance frameworks, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Experience in contract and supplier management, driving strategic partners to support HSE objectives.

Qualifications
- Relevant professional level 6 qualification in safety, such as NEBOSH Diploma.
- Full membership of a recognised professional body, such as IOSH.
- Desirable: Environmental qualification such as IEMA Certificate.
