About the Role
This pivotal role is responsible for maintaining high standards in Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) matters across BT's diverse UK property estate of approximately 8,000 sites. You will manage hazardous substances such as Asbestos, Legionella, and Radon, ensuring compliance with legal and moral obligations, safeguarding colleague safety, and supporting continuous performance improvement. Your responsibilities include delivering BT's Hazardous Environments strategy, translating policies into practical onsite solutions, and managing hazardous substance incidents effectively. You will oversee BT's hazardous substance systems, including maintaining the AlphaTracker database, and provide expert risk advice across property, workplace, and wider business operations. Leading and governing multiple Hazardous Environment forums with wide stakeholder engagement, you will monitor key performance indicators, audit actions, and escalate issues as needed. You will analyse management information to identify trends and improvement opportunities, produce compliance reports, and develop communications and guidance to foster a positive HSE culture. This role requires proactive collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including strategic alliance partners, to drive performance and continuous improvement in hazardous environments management.

Experience
- Significant technical expertise in hazardous environments, specifically Asbestos, Radon, and Legionella.
- Proven ability to develop cost-effective and efficient hazardous environment safety solutions.
- Strong communication and confident presentation skills, able to clearly convey complex and emotive issues.
- Commercially astute with the ability to make risk-based decisions.
- Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint for data analysis and presentation.
- Experience engaging effectively with internal and external stakeholders to drive performance and raise awareness of environmental controls.

- BOHS P402 - Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings.
- BOHS P404 - Air Sampling and Clearance Testing of Asbestos.
- BOHS P405 - Management of Asbestos in Buildings.
- BOHS P901 - Management and Control of Building Hot/Cold Water Services or equivalent professional qualifications.
