Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am - 3:36 pm plus standby rota payments. Overtime opportunities can increase earning potential by up to £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
Salary
Up to £47,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience, plus company van, tools, and PPE provided.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation, Control & Automation (ICA) Technician to join our Wastewater team. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams including systems, mechanical, and electrical technicians to install, modify, and commission new plant equipment to relevant standards. Your responsibilities will include diagnosing and repairing faults on systems and plants, proactively identifying and reporting works for enhancement, and delivering cost-effective improvements to assets and systems.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact by helping to reduce pollution from our sites.
Key duties include ensuring health and safety compliance, carrying out planned and defect maintenance on wastewater assets, recording work and asset information to improve business performance, providing specialist technical advice, coaching and developing staff including apprentices, and delivering excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
All necessary PPE, tools, and a company van will be provided when on duty and on call.
Experience
- Proven experience in calibration and maintenance of front-line instrumentation.
- Practical understanding of operational plant and control systems.
- Knowledge and experience working with relay logic and PLCs (Rockwell & Allen Bradley), including management and programming.
- Ability to read and fault find from circuit diagrams.
- Experience with inverter drives is desirable.
- Understanding of Wonderware and Clear SCADA is desirable.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify potential issues and implement solutions or escalate as needed.
- Excellent communication skills, providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors.
- Resilient and adaptable to working under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
- Ability to work independently, using own initiative to design and meet standards.
- Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
- Team player with respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of colleagues.

Qualifications
- Qualified to HNC level or NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in an instrumentation, control and automation discipline.
- Preferably holds an 18th Edition (BS7671) qualification.
- Full UK driving licence is essential.
