Location
Walthamstow, London, with mobile work across Water Treatment Works and borehole sites in the Chingford, Walthamstow, Waltham Abbey, and Stonebridge Park areas.

Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm, plus standby shifts with the opportunity to increase earnings by £8,000 to £10,000.

Salary
Up to £47,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

About the Role
Join Thames Water’s Water Production Operations Team as an Instrumentation, Control & Automation (ICA) or Control and Instrumentation (C&I) Technician. This vital role involves installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of water production assets such as level instrumentation, flow meters, and turbidity monitors. You will work with SCADA systems, PLCs (including Rockwell & Allen-Bradley), and process control networks to ensure water quality compliance, safety, and operational efficiency. Responsibilities include investigating asset failures, implementing repairs promptly to avoid supply interruptions, liaising with contractors and suppliers, providing specialist technical advice, and supporting technical apprentices. The role is based contractually at the Coppermills Water Production site near Walthamstow. All PPE, tools, a company van, and a fuel card are provided.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience working with relay logic and PLCs (Rockwell & Allen-Bradley), including management and programming.
- Experience in calibration and maintenance of front-line instrumentation.
- Ability to read and fault-find from circuit diagrams and experience with inverter drives.
- Practical understanding of operational plant and control systems.
- Experience working with SCADA systems such as Wonderware and ClearSCADA is desirable.

Qualifications
- Ideally qualified to HNC level or NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in instrumentation, control, and automation discipline.
- Preferably holds an 18th Edition (BS7671) qualification.
