Instrumentation, Controls & Automation Technician (ICA)


Location
Esher Sewage Treatment Work, KT10 8AU. This is a mobile role requiring travel to over 200 pumping stations across Surrey and West Sussex.
Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am - 3:36 pm. Standby and overtime opportunities available, with potential to increase earnings by £8,000 - £10,000 upon completion of essential company training.
Salary
Up to £57,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation, Control & Automation (ICA) Technician to join our Home Counties Pumping Team. This vital role involves installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of wastewater assets including level instrumentation and flow meters. You will work with SCADA systems, PLCs (Rockwell & Allen-Bradley), and process control networks to operate and optimise processes and on-site equipment, ensuring safety, operational efficiency, and compliance with statutory obligations.
You will investigate asset failures and implement repairs promptly to avoid interruptions to water supply. The role includes liaising with and supervising contractors and suppliers, providing specialist technical advice, and supporting the training of technical apprentices.
All necessary PPE, tools, a company van, and a fuel card will be provided.
Experience
Proven experience working with relay logic and PLCs (Rockwell & Allen-Bradley), including management and programming. Experience in calibration and maintenance of front-line instrumentation. Ability to read and fault-find from circuit diagrams and experience with inverter drives. Practical understanding of operational plant and control systems is essential.

Qualifications
Ideally qualified to HNC level or NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in instrumentation, control and automation discipline. Strong electrical background, preferably with an 18th Edition (BS7671) qualification. Understanding of Wonderware and ClearSCADA is desirable.
