Instrumentation, Controls & Automation Technician (ICA)


Location
Latton Water Treatment Works, Cirencester Road, Down Ampney, Cirencester, GL7 5QF. This is a mobile role covering the designated area of Cotswold and Swindon, with occasional emergency coverage across the wider West Thames Valley area including Oxford.
Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am - 3:36 pm. Standby and overtime opportunities available, potentially increasing earnings by £8,000 - £10,000 upon completion of essential company training.
Salary
Up to £53,000 per annum depending on skills, experience and qualifications. Additional earnings possible through standby and overtime.
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Instrumentation, Control & Automation (ICA) or Control and Instrumentation (C&I) Technician to join our Water Production team. You will be responsible for installations, commissioning, maintenance, and repairs of water production assets including level, pressure, and flow instrumentation. The role involves working with SCADA systems, PLCs, and process control networks. You will liaise with and supervise contractors and suppliers as needed, investigate asset failures, and implement repairs promptly to avoid supply interruptions. Additionally, you will provide specialist technical advice, maintain up-to-date technical knowledge, and support training for technical apprentices. The role requires travel between various sites and the ability to work safely, efficiently, and with minimal supervision while meeting statutory obligations and maintaining asset performance to manufacturers' standards. All necessary PPE, tools, a company van, and a fuel card are provided.
Experience
Experience in calibration and maintenance of front-line instrumentation is essential. Practical understanding of operational plant and control systems is required. Knowledge of ClearSCADA and telemetry outstations is desirable. Experience working with Ladder logic and PLCs (Rockwell & Alan Bradley), including management and programming, is important. Ability to read and fault-find from circuit diagrams is expected.

Qualifications
Ideally qualified to HNC level or NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in an instrumentation, control and automation discipline. An 18th Edition (BS7671) qualification is desirable. Good foundational knowledge of Low Voltage (LV) systems is advantageous.
