Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday 7:30 AM - 3:36 PM. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities available, potentially increasing earnings by £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
Salary
£31,130 per annum base salary. Potential overall package earnings up to £45,000 per annum depending on skills and experience, plus standby and overtime pay.
About the Role
We are recruiting a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join the Water Operations team at Orpington WTW. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team responsible for scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment, ensuring minimal plant breakdown and supporting continuous operation. Your duties will include investigating plant failures, diagnosing complex faults, and carrying out repairs efficiently to avoid process interruptions. You will provide technical advice, share up-to-date knowledge, and support technical trainees when required.
Equipment you will work on includes motors, gearboxes, screw/chain conveyors, centrifuges, pumps, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSDs, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives, and chemical handling and dosing equipment.
You will complete statutory checks, always work safely in compliance with Health and Safety procedures, and be prepared to receive training on the water treatment process.
All PPE, tools, fuel card, and van are provided.
Experience
- Time-served apprentice or significant experience in electrical systems within a multi-skilled role.
- Previous electrical apprenticeship experience is essential.
Qualifications
- ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or City & Guilds Level 3 in mechanical engineering.
- Upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ Level 2/3 and 18th Edition wiring regulations.
- Mechanical qualification enabling inspection, maintenance, fault diagnosis, testing, installation, modification, or repair of mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
- Valid driving licence is essential.
