Crossness Sewage Treatment Works, Abbey Wood, South East London, SE2 9AQ

Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm. Standby and overtime opportunities available, increasing earnings by a potential £8,000 - £10,000 upon completion of essential company training.

Salary
Up to £45,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Additional earnings possible through standby rota payments and overtime.

About the Role
We are recruiting a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Wastewater Division. You will use your mechanical and electrical expertise to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment safely, efficiently, and with minimal supervision. Your work ensures that all sites remain operational, benefiting our customers and helping reduce environmental pollution.
- Carry out scheduled planned maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment following company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
- Investigate plant failures and perform repairs promptly to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults.
- Provide technical advice, maintain up-to-date technical knowledge, and support or train technical trainees as needed.
- Work on equipment such as pumps and control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems (VSDs), automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives, and chemical handling and dosing equipment.
- Participate in a standby rota after completing relevant training.
All personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools are provided.

Requirements

Experience
- Time-served electrical apprenticeship with significant experience in electrical systems in a multi-skilled capacity.
- Mechanical NVQ2/3 qualification or willingness to upskill to dual-skilled status.
- Experience working safely and efficiently on mechanical and electrical plant equipment.
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues.
- Physical fitness to work in confined spaces following appropriate training.
- Valid driving licence is essential; vehicle and tools are provided.

About you
Enthusiastic and committed to developing your skills in both mechanical and electrical disciplines. Able to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on safety and quality. Willing to participate in standby rota and overtime to support operational needs.

Qualifications
- Electrical apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications such as ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical Engineering.
- Mechanical NVQ2/3 qualification or commitment to achieve this is crucial.
- Completion of essential company training to participate in standby rota and overtime.
