Salary
Up to £45,000 per annum depending on skills and experience. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities can increase earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our team at the Bourne End water production site. You will use your mechanical and electrical knowledge to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment safely, efficiently, and with minimum supervision. Your work will ensure our sites remain operational, helping to reduce pollution and improve Thames Water's environmental impact.
Your responsibilities will include carrying out scheduled planned maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns. You will investigate plant failures and carry out repairs promptly to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults and repairing during incidents. You will provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and support or train technical trainees as required.
Equipment you will work on includes various pumps and control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as variable speed drives (VSDs), automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, chemical handling and dosing equipment.
You will participate in a standby rota following relevant training. All PPE, tools, and a company van will be provided when on duty and on call.

Experience
Time-served electrical apprentice with significant experience working in a multi-skilled electrical systems capacity. Experience or upskilling in mechanical qualifications (NVQ2/3) is crucial to inspect, maintain, diagnose faults, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently. Candidates with either mechanical or electrical experience only will be considered for development to dual-skilled status.
Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are essential. Physical fitness is required as the role involves working in confined spaces following successful completion of appropriate training. A valid driving licence is essential.

Qualifications
Electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical Engineering. Mechanical NVQ2/3 qualification or willingness to upskill in mechanical disciplines is essential.
Completion of essential company training to participate in standby rota and operate all required equipment safely.
