About the Role
As a Mechanical & Electrical Technician, you will use your mechanical and electrical knowledge and experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment safely, efficiently, and with minimal supervision. Your work ensures all sites remain operational for the benefit of customers and helps reduce environmental pollution.
You will carry out scheduled planned maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment following company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns. Investigating plant failures and completing repairs quickly and efficiently to avoid process interruptions will be a key part of your role. This may include diagnosing complex faults and repairing during incidents.
You will provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and may support or train technical trainees. Equipment you will work on includes pumps and control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSDs, automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, and chemical handling and dosing equipment.
You will participate in a standby rota following relevant training. All PPE, tools, a company van, and a fuel card are provided.
Experience
You should be a time-served electrical apprentice with significant experience working in a true multi-skilled capacity. Ideally, you will have mechanical qualifications (NVQ2/3) to complement your electrical skills, enabling you to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently. Candidates with either mechanical or electrical experience only will be considered for development to dual-skilled status.
About you
You must have strong knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues. Physical fitness is required as the role involves working in confined spaces, with successful completion of appropriate training. A valid driving licence is essential. You should be reliable, motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Qualifications
Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical Engineering is essential. Mechanical NVQ2/3 upskill is crucial for this role.
