About the Role
We are recruiting a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our team at Bicester Sewage Treatment Works. In this role, you will use your mechanical and electrical knowledge and experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment safely, efficiently, and with minimum supervision. Your work will ensure that all sites remain operational, benefiting our customers and helping to reduce pollution from our sites, making a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact.
You will carry out scheduled planned maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment following company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns. Investigating plant failures and performing repairs quickly and efficiently to avoid process interruptions will be a key responsibility. This may involve diagnosing complex faults and repairing equipment during incidents.
You will provide technical advice, maintain up-to-date technical knowledge, and may support or train technical trainees if required. Equipment you will work on includes various pumps and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as variable speed drives (VSDs), automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, chemical handling and dosing equipment.
You will participate in a standby rota following relevant training. All PPE, tools, a company van, and a fuel card are provided to support your work.
Experience
You should be a time-served electrical apprentice with significant experience working in a true multi-skilled capacity. Ideally, you will have mechanical qualifications (NVQ2/3) to complement your electrical skills, enabling you to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently. Candidates with either mechanical or electrical experience will be considered for development to dual-skilled status.
Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are essential. The role requires physical fitness as work may involve confined spaces, with appropriate training provided. A valid driving licence is essential.
About you
You are a motivated and skilled technician who takes pride in delivering high-quality work safely and efficiently. You are adaptable, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and willing to participate in standby duties. You have a strong commitment to health and safety and are keen to develop your skills further within a supportive team environment.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications include an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical Engineering. Mechanical NVQ2/3 upskilling is crucial or will be supported. You must hold a valid driving licence.
