Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm. Standby and overtime opportunities available, increasing earnings by a potential £8,000 - £10,000 upon completion of essential company training.
Salary
Up to £45,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Additional earnings from standby rota payments and overtime can increase this by up to £8,000 - £10,000 per annum.
About the Role
We are recruiting a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Wastewater Division. Based at Crossness Sewage Treatment Works, you will use your mechanical and electrical expertise to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment safely, efficiently, and with minimal supervision. Your work ensures our sites remain operational, helping to reduce pollution and positively impact the environment.
- Carry out scheduled planned maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment following company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
- Investigate plant failures and perform repairs promptly to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults and repairing during incidents.
- Provide technical advice, maintain up-to-date technical knowledge, and support or train technical trainees as required.
- Work on equipment such as pumps and control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems (VSDs), automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives, and chemical handling and dosing equipment.
- Participate in a standby rota following relevant training.
All necessary PPE and tools are provided.
Experience
- Time-served electrical apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems, ideally working in a multi-skilled capacity.
- Mechanical NVQ2/3 qualification or equivalent upskill is crucial.
- Experience in inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnosing, testing, installing, modifying, or repairing mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are essential.
- Physical fitness required to work in confined spaces, with successful completion of appropriate training.
- Valid driving licence is essential; vehicle and tools are provided.

Qualifications
- Electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G Level 3 in Electrical Engineering.
- Mechanical NVQ2/3 or equivalent upskill is required or willingness to achieve this.
- Completion of essential company training to participate in standby rota and overtime opportunities.
