£52,000 to £80,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience

About the Role
Thames Water is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to lead and build a world-class technical team, driving innovation and delivering impact across major infrastructure projects up to £300 million. You will plan and manage design activities for a portfolio of projects from concept through feasibility, de-risking, and contract award stages, ensuring milestones and budgets are met or exceeded. You will provide technical assurance of detailed designs, manage design changes and waivers during construction, and support project teams through commissioning and handover of assets. Acting as a key contact for Contract Design Management regulations, you will also conduct health and safety inspections and collaborate with construction assurance teams to improve safety performance. Your role will involve risk management, stakeholder relationship building, and applying commercial and contractual expertise to guide project delivery strategies. Experience
- Proven background managing capital projects and delivering high-quality work with excellent customer focus
- Experience delivering major engineering infrastructure projects up to £100 million in a regulated environment
- Competent in risk identification, mitigation, and control with strong analytical decision-making skills
- Experience in people management and leading technical teams
- Skilled in health and safety inspections and construction assurance collaboration

Qualifications
- Degree in civil, mechanical, or other engineering disciplines (including master's degrees)
- Chartered status or actively working towards chartership
