About the Role
Join AECOM as a Principal Environmental Consultant working on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects across the UK and Ireland. You will manage environmental inputs to large-scale infrastructure development projects that support the UK’s net zero commitments and transform infrastructure. Projects include energy generation (carbon capture, hydrogen, renewables), energy distribution and transmission, carbon capture pipelines, strategic rail projects, highway improvements, regeneration developments, and projects across ecommerce, minerals and waste, water, defence, aviation, commercial, residential, and industrial sectors.

Your responsibilities will include managing EIA screening and scoping reports, environmental assessments, Environmental Statements, and supporting documents. You will be involved throughout all project stages from early strategy and site identification through to detailed design, construction, and operation. You will work across multiple consenting regimes such as DCO, TCPA, TWA, and hybrid Bills.

You will ensure the highest quality standards in deliverables, manage resources and budgets, collaborate with integrated design teams to identify environmental constraints and mitigation solutions, and maintain strong client relationships. Additionally, you will promote AECOM’s environmental services, lead business development opportunities, and contribute to fee and technical proposal development.

As part of a national team of over 165 EIA specialists, you will work within an innovative and supportive environment aligned with AECOM’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy and the IEMA EIA Quality Mark.

Experience
Proven experience managing and coordinating multidisciplinary environmental inputs to infrastructure development projects. Strong knowledge of EIA, environmental assessment methods, planning legislation, and relevant consenting and licensing regimes. Experience with Development Consent Orders (DCO) and/or Transport and Works Act Orders (TWAO) is advantageous.

Demonstrated consultancy and project management skills including programming, resourcing, budget management, and coordination of specialist technical inputs.

Confident communicator with excellent verbal, report writing, and technical review skills. Collaborative team player able to build strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Willingness to travel and work flexibly across projects and stakeholder groups.

Qualifications
Degree in a relevant environmental discipline, preferably at Masters level, with appropriate professional membership. Chartered Environmentalist status is advantageous. Interest in mentoring and line management is desirable.
