About the Role
Join AECOM as a Principal Environmental Consultant working on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects across the UK and Ireland. You will manage environmental inputs to large-scale infrastructure development projects that support the UK’s net zero commitments and transform infrastructure. Projects include energy generation (carbon capture, hydrogen, renewables), energy distribution and transmission, carbon capture pipelines, strategic rail projects, highway improvements, regeneration developments, and various sectors such as ecommerce, minerals and waste, water, defence, aviation, commercial, residential, and industrial.
You will lead the preparation and review of EIA screening and scoping reports, Environmental Statements, and supporting documents throughout all project stages from early strategy and site identification to detailed design, construction, and operation. You will work across multiple consenting regimes including DCO, TCPA, TWA, and hybrid Bills.
Your role will ensure the highest quality standards and compliance with rigorous quality management procedures. You will apply strong project management skills to manage resources and budgets effectively, collaborate within integrated design teams to identify environmental constraints and mitigation solutions, and manage client relationships and internal teams. You will also promote AECOM’s environmental services and lead business development opportunities.
As part of a national team of over 165 EIA specialists within AECOM’s Environment business, you will contribute to innovative projects delivered through long-term client partnerships, aligned with AECOM’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy.
Experience
- Proven experience managing and coordinating multidisciplinary environmental inputs to infrastructure development projects.
- Strong knowledge of EIA, environmental assessment methods, planning legislation, and relevant consenting and licensing regimes.
- Experience with Development Consent Orders (DCO) and/or Transport and Works Act Orders (TWAO) is advantageous.
- Consultancy experience delivering environmental services with strong project management skills including programming, resourcing, and budget management.
- Ability to coordinate specialist technical inputs effectively.

Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant environmental discipline, preferably at Masters level.
- Appropriate professional membership, Chartered Environmentalist status is advantageous.
- Interest in mentoring and line management is desirable.
