About the Role
Join AECOM’s dynamic Water team as a Principal Flood Modeller and play a key role in delivering high-profile flood risk and hydrology projects across the UK and beyond. You will be a senior technical resource, guiding junior staff and developing innovative flood modelling solutions for local authorities, water companies, and public and private sector clients. Your work will involve developing and checking hydraulic models using industry-standard software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS and ICM to support Flood Alleviation Schemes, Flood Risk Assessments, and reservoir flood studies. You will also develop water quality models using tools like MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, and ICM, and undertake hydrological assessments including Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2 and WINFAP.
In this role, you will lead tender submissions for projects ranging from innovative one-offs to multimillion-pound frameworks, mentor team members, build client relationships, and stay up-to-date with legislation and guidelines affecting flood risk management. You will collaborate closely with engineers and technical specialists to deliver fluvial, coastal, surface water, and drainage flood risk management projects, ensuring high-quality outputs within agreed programmes and budgets.

Experience
Significant experience in hydraulic and water quality modelling software such as Mike, ICM, SIMCAT, Flood Modeller and/or TUFLOW. Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood risk assessments. Practical experience in hydrological assessments and flood model conceptualisation. Experience leading tenders and mentoring staff.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline. Obtained or near to obtaining professional qualification with CIWEM or similar. Basic understanding of physico-chemical water quality and regulatory standards. Practical knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Anaconda, or Ruby is advantageous.
