About the Role
Join AECOM’s dynamic and rapidly growing Water Business Line as a Principal Flood Modeller and play a key role in delivering high-profile flood risk projects across the UK and beyond. You will be a senior technical resource, guiding junior staff and developing our flood modelling services for local authorities, water companies, and public and private sector clients. Your work will involve developing and checking hydraulic models using software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS, and ICM to support Flood Alleviation Schemes, Flood Risk Assessments, and reservoir flood studies. You will also develop water quality models using industry-standard tools like MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, and ICM. This role includes conceptualising and scoping modelling approaches, undertaking hydrological assessments, leading tenders, mentoring staff, and building strong client relationships. You will work closely with engineers and technical specialists to deliver a wide range of fluvial, coastal, surface water, and drainage flood risk management projects. Requirements

Experience
Significant experience in hydraulic and water quality modelling software such as Mike, ICM, SIMCAT, Flood Modeller, and/or TUFLOW. Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood risk assessments. Practical experience with hydrological assessments including Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, and WINFAP. Experience leading tenders and managing multimillion-pound framework contracts. Proven ability to mentor and develop junior staff.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline. Obtained or near to obtaining professional qualification with CIWEM or similar. Basic understanding of physico-chemical water quality and associated regulatory standards. Practical knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Anaconda, or Ruby is advantageous.
