About the Role
Protect lives and landscapes with AECOM by delivering expert flood risk solutions that safeguard communities and infrastructure. Join our dynamic and rapidly growing Water Business Line as a Principal Flood Modeller, working at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious northern engineering hubs. You will play a senior technical role, guiding junior staff and developing our flood risk modelling services for local authorities, water companies, and public and private sector clients.
In this role, you will develop and check hydraulic models using industry-standard software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS, and ICM to support Flood Alleviation Schemes, Flood Risk Assessments, and reservoir flood studies. You will also develop water quality models using software like MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, and ICM. Your responsibilities include conceptualising and scoping modelling approaches, undertaking hydrological assessments using Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, and WINFAP, leading tenders, mentoring team members, and building strong client relationships.
You will work closely with engineers and technical specialists to deliver fluvial, coastal, surface water, and drainage flood risk management projects. Staying up-to-date with legislation and guidelines, you will ensure high-quality outputs are delivered on time and within budget using AECOM’s project management systems.
Join a team of around 700 water experts across the UK and Ireland, collaborating on projects from concept to completion in an inclusive, forward-thinking environment. Enjoy a flexible hybrid working model, career development opportunities, and a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being and work-life balance.

Proven ability to lead tenders and mentor junior staff.
About you
