About the Role
Join AECOM’s Electrification & Power team as a Principal Rail Traction Power / Substation Engineer, delivering complex rail projects across the UK and internationally. You will be responsible for the technical and commercial delivery of key traction power and high voltage substation projects, acting as Discipline Lead or Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) where required. Your work will span the full project lifecycle from feasibility studies and outline design through to detailed design and construction support. You will ensure designs are accurate, cost-effective, constructable, and compliant with relevant codes and standards.

You will lead the delivery of complex traction power and substation design packages, provide technical leadership and mentorship, collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients, and maintain high standards of design assurance and governance. Your role will also involve site visits, construction stage support, and contributing technical input to bids and proposals. A strong understanding of Health & Safety and CDM requirements is essential.

Experience
- Significant experience in traction power and high voltage substation design
- Demonstrable experience acting as CRE / Lead Engineer
- Proven track record delivering complex projects across feasibility, outline, and detailed design stages
- Experience leading multidisciplinary coordination and overseeing design teams
- Low voltage experience is desirable but not essential

Qualifications
- Chartered status, working towards chartership, or demonstrable experience operating at Principal level
