About the Role
Join AECOM’s Electrification & Power team as a Principal Rail Traction Power / Substation Engineer, delivering complex rail projects across the UK and internationally. You will be responsible for the technical and commercial delivery of traction power and high voltage substation systems, acting as Discipline Lead or Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) where required. Your work will span the full project lifecycle from feasibility studies and outline design through to detailed design and construction support. You will lead the delivery of complex traction power and substation design packages, ensuring designs are accurate, cost-effective, constructable, and compliant with relevant codes and standards.
You will provide technical leadership and mentorship within the team, collaborate closely with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams, and liaise directly with clients and stakeholders. Your role includes developing and approving design documentation, undertaking final technical reviews, maintaining design assurance and governance, and providing construction stage design support. Site visits and surveys will also form part of your responsibilities to inform design development and resolve technical issues. A strong understanding of Health & Safety and CDM requirements is essential.

Experience
- Significant experience in traction power and high voltage substation design
- Demonstrable experience acting as CRE / Lead Engineer
- Proven track record delivering complex projects across feasibility, outline, and detailed design stages
- Experience leading multidisciplinary coordination and overseeing design teams

Qualifications
