About the Role
Join AECOM's Electrification & Power team as a Principal Rail Traction Power / Substation Engineer, delivering complex rail projects across the UK and internationally. You will be responsible for the technical and commercial delivery of traction power and high voltage substation projects, acting as Discipline Lead or Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) where required. Your work will span the full project lifecycle from feasibility studies and outline design through to detailed design and construction support. You will ensure designs are accurate, cost-effective, constructable and compliant with relevant codes and standards.
You will provide technical leadership by approving design documentation, undertaking independent reviews, and maintaining design assurance and governance. Collaboration with Project Managers, multidisciplinary teams, clients and stakeholders will be key to ensuring coordinated and efficient delivery. Site visits and construction stage support will also form part of your role. You will contribute to the ongoing development and technical direction of the Electrification & Power team, mentoring engineers and designers.

Experience
- Significant experience in traction power and high voltage substation design
- Demonstrable experience acting as CRE / Lead Engineer
- Proven track record delivering complex projects across feasibility, outline and detailed design stages
- Experience leading multidisciplinary coordination and overseeing design teams
About you
- Strong technical leadership and mentorship skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, clients and stakeholders
- Proactive in site visits and resolving technical issues
- Understanding of Health & Safety and CDM requirements
Qualifications
- Chartered status, working towards chartership, or demonstrable experience operating at Principal level
- Low voltage experience desirable but not essential
