About the Role
United Utilities (UU) is committed to delivering great water for a stronger, greener, and healthier North West of England. As a Regional Grounds Maintenance Operative, you will carry out a variety of site maintenance and recovery activities on both operational and non-operational land. This includes grounds maintenance, vegetation management and removal from assets, soft landscaping, arboriculture works, contractor management, and minor building maintenance in line with site maintenance plans.

You will ensure site standards are upheld across Water and Wastewater Treatment works and other UU land, maintaining quality, performance, and safety standards. The role involves physically demanding tasks in a fast-changing outdoor environment with exposure to environmental hazards and sewerage contamination.

Key responsibilities include operating and performing daily checks on a variety of powered and non-powered plant, tools, and equipment such as vehicles, trailers, ride-on mowers, agricultural vehicles, large plant, robots, and handheld tools. You will record completed work on corporate systems, carry out minor remedial works, contribute to training new starters, and adhere strictly to Health and Safety regulations and company policies.

Additional duties include application and handling of pesticides including invasive weed management, supporting the Team Leader in developing and implementing new works, liaising with other UU members for integrated project delivery, and taking ownership of task-based activities when appropriate.

Experience
Practical experience in grounds maintenance, vegetation management, and soft landscaping in an outdoor environment.
Experience operating a variety of grounds and specialist machinery such as pedestrian mowers, strimmers, blowers, hedge cutters, ride-on mowers, tractors, and robots.
Ability to work to schedules with good time management skills.
Experience in dynamic risk assessment and understanding of Risk Assessments.
Excellent customer service skills and ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications
Full UK Driving Licence (clean).
Willingness to work towards Class C driving licence if required.
Willingness to attend familiarisation training for towing trailers.
Hold or be willing to work towards NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Manually Fed Woodchipper Operations.
Hold or be willing to work towards qualifications for applying chemicals near water (Formally PA6/PA6INJ/PA6W).

Desirable Qualifications
City & Guilds / NVQ / Lantra qualification in agricultural and land-based industry.
