About the Role
Following a number of project and long-term framework wins in the Nuclear industry, including Urenco HALEUF, Urenco PDP, Sellafield IDP and Trawsfynydd Height Reduction, we are seeking a Senior Civil and Structural Engineer to support the delivery of these challenging projects for our clients at all stages of the nuclear fuel cycle. This is an exciting and challenging role within CEL to join our growing team of 150+ Civil & Structural Engineers and Designers. Our department covers a range of projects from Concept Studies through to Detailed Design, providing a variety of interesting work. Industries include Water, Transport and Energy sectors such as Green Energy, Nuclear and Oil and Gas.
Working with minimal supervision or guidance, the fundamental requirement of this role is to collaborate with our existing design team to carry out feasibility studies, reference designs, detailed designs, and prepare reports, technical specifications and proposals for key local and regional clients in the Northwest.
Responsibilities include:
- Taking responsibility for leading small projects and subtasks from a technical perspective
- Preparing preliminary and detailed design analysis, calculations, specifications and related documentation for civil and structural works
- Communicating designs effectively to BIM teams
- Liaising effectively with other disciplines and construction teams
- Communicating confidently and authoritatively with clients
- Challenging and delivering value engineering solutions
- Supporting and guiding more junior team members
Experience
- Proven UK experience within the nuclear industry
- Good knowledge of UK design working practices and installation requirements of the discipline
- Awareness of risk identification, quantification, management and HSE requirements
- Eligibility to obtain Security Clearance (UK National or minimum of 5 years UK residency)
Desirable:
- Civil & Structural elements of pumped systems such as fire and potable water
- Knowledge of Urenco standards and processes
- Experience with new and historic structures, including optioneering assessments
- Experience in leading small teams and supporting junior engineers
- Knowledge and experience of common forms of contracts
- Project Management and Requirements Management experience

Qualifications
Essential:
- Minimum BEng Civil or Structural Engineering
- Chartered or Incorporated status with ICE or IStructE
- Ability to obtain Security Clearance
Desirable:
- Nuclear Industry recognised training and qualifications
- Currently holding Security Clearance
- CSCS or CCNSG certification
