About the Role
The Group Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Department at Costain is dedicated to ensuring safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible operations through the implementation of the Group SHE Management System and Group SHE Plan. This system provides a framework and standards to manage safety, health, and environmental risks and opportunities, aiming to prevent injury and ill health, provide a safe working environment, and protect and enhance the natural environment in balance with socio-economic requirements across all activities and operations.
The department’s purpose is to protect employees, the community, and the environment while ensuring Costain operates sustainably and complies with relevant legislation and regulations. The Senior SHE Advisor will support Contract SHE functions by providing and supporting SHE solutions, enabling Contract and Operational Teams to implement the Group SHE Management System effectively.
This role involves building and maintaining relationships with all stakeholders and providing an independent and objective view of SHE performance on the contract. Key responsibilities include supporting and influencing contract leadership teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure compliance, delivering training, coaching operational and supply chain contractors, supporting contract SHE objectives, engaging with assurance programmes, investigating unplanned events, and supporting data-driven improvement plans.
Experience
- Essential: Relevant SHE experience
- Desirable: Significant SHE experience in relevant industry sectors
About you
- Strong communication and influencing skills to support contract leadership and stakeholders
- Ability to coach and support operational teams and supply chain contractors
- Proactive in supporting SHE assurance, investigations, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Essential: Technical IOSH or AIEMA or equivalent, NEBOSH Construction Certificate or NEBOSH Oil and Gas, or IEMA Associate Qualification (Course) or equivalent
- Desirable: Cert IOSH or AIEMA or equivalent, NEBOSH Occupational Safety Diploma or Environmental Diploma or equivalent
