About the Role
Protect lives and landscapes with AECOM by delivering expert flood risk solutions that safeguard communities and infrastructure. Join our dynamic and rapidly growing Water Business Line as a Senior Flood Modeller, working at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious northern engineering hubs. You will play a senior technical role, guiding junior staff and developing our flood risk modelling services for local authorities, water companies, and both private and public sector clients.
In this role, you will develop and check hydraulic models using industry-standard software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS, and ICM to support Flood Alleviation Schemes, Flood Risk Assessments, and reservoir flood studies. You will also develop water quality models (physico-chemical, biological, bacterial, or chemical) using software like MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, and ICM.
You will conceptualise and scope modelling approaches, undertake hydrological assessments using Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, and WINFAP, and lead tender submissions ranging from innovative projects to multimillion-pound framework contracts. Mentoring junior staff and building strong client relationships across technical disciplines will be key to your success.
Stay up-to-date with legislation and guidelines affecting flood risk services, use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver high-quality outputs on time and budget, and collaborate closely with engineers and specialists to deliver fluvial, coastal, surface water, and drainage flood risk management projects. Join a team that values innovation, inclusivity, and making a positive impact on communities and the environment.
Enjoy a flexible hybrid working model, career development opportunities, technical networks, volunteering days, and a comprehensive benefits package tailored to support your well-being and lifestyle. We welcome discussions about part-time or flexible working arrangements to suit your needs.
Experience

Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for preparing flood models for flood risk assessments. Experience in hydrological assessments using Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, and WINFAP. Proven ability to lead tenders and mentor junior staff.
About you
Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a dynamic, deadline-driven team. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Willingness to innovate and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline. Obtained or near to obtaining professional qualification with CIWEM or similar. Basic understanding of physico-chemical water quality and associated regulatory standards for fresh waters. Practical knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Anaconda, or Ruby is advantageous.
