About the Role
Join AECOM’s established and expanding Nuclear team as a Senior Nuclear Waste Consultant, engaging in a diverse range of international and UK-based projects. This role involves participation in multi-disciplinary projects at various lifecycle stages, from client consultancy to comprehensive turn-key solutions. Responsibilities include client interaction, bid and proposal development, and project delivery aligned with AECOM’s standards for quality, safety, and environmental care. You will apply your expertise independently and collaboratively to deliver cost-effective, optimised, and practical solutions that meet client needs. Projects may include waste management studies, environmental assessments, and decommissioning strategy development. You will provide technical leadership in nuclear waste management, including waste characterization, treatment, storage, and disposal, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside leading civil, mechanical, electrical, and process engineers on projects ranging from small initiatives to large-scale ventures, from concept through to completion. Experience
- Experience in radioactive waste management, ideally with UK nuclear licensed sites or knowledge of UK Site Licence companies
- Experience operating waste management facilities or conducting studies on their use
- Consulting and project management experience
- Experience in nuclear decommissioning or studies exploring decommissioning approaches
- Experience facilitating optioneering meetings and regulator engagement
- Experience in waste management studies such as strategy development, integrated waste strategies, and radioactive waste inventory development
- Experience in environmental studies including Best Available Technique (BAT) assessments and Environmental Aspects identification

You possess excellent communication skills in English, solid numeracy skills, and commercial awareness for business development and proposal preparation. Qualifications
Desirable experience includes:
- Environmental permitting and compliance
- Environmental safety cases
- Waste-informed decommissioning studies
- Site end-state management
- Regulation of radioactive substances and waste
- Higher Active Waste (HAW) assessments such as RWM disposal assessments
- Knowledge of the Radioactive Waste Advisor role
- Waste characterisation, treatment, conditioning, packaging, storage, transport or disposal
- Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) management
