About the Role
Join AECOM’s Electrification & Power team as a Senior Rail Traction Power / Substation Engineer, delivering rail projects that meet client expectations with accuracy, cost-effectiveness, and compliance to relevant standards. You will work on traction power and substation projects across the UK, with opportunities to support international initiatives. The role covers the full project lifecycle from feasibility studies and outline design through to detailed design and construction support. You will take technical responsibility for key projects, operate at Independent Checker level, and support the development of engineers within the team.
Your responsibilities will include providing technical oversight and delivery of design packages across multiple project stages, contributing to the growth of traction power and substation capabilities, collaborating with project managers and teams, and liaising with clients and stakeholders. You will develop and review design documentation including calculations, reports and specifications, undertake independent technical checks, and provide guidance on design outputs. Site visits and surveys will be part of your role to inform design development, along with construction stage support to ensure works align with design intent. A strong understanding of Health & Safety and CDM requirements is essential.
Experience
- Proven experience in traction power and high voltage substation design.
- Experience delivering projects across feasibility, outline and detailed design stages.
- Experience acting as CRE / Lead Engineer is advantageous; support and mentoring will be provided if prior CRE experience is not held.
- Strong understanding of relevant industry standards and design governance.
- Low voltage experience is desirable but not essential.
