About the Role
Join AECOM’s dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Environment team as a Senior Water Scientist or Hydrologist, helping to shape the future of the water industry. You will work on an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects, partnering with clients from public and private sectors including the Environment Agency, Natural England, National Highways, Water Companies, NRW, River Trusts, developers, and overseas clients. Key projects include catchment-wide river restoration plans, hydrological reviews, water balance studies, Natural Flood Management design and modelling, Environmental Improvement Programme delivery, fish pass and river restoration schemes, and strategies to improve catchment water quantity and quality driven by WFD and Local Nature Recovery requirements. Your work will primarily focus on fluvial environments, with significant involvement in estuaries, lakes, and marine environments. You will support high-quality bid and tender preparation, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, plan and implement complex monitoring and fieldwork, deliver consultancy and advisory services, and develop technically robust solutions to complex water science and hydrological challenges. You will also contribute to client engagement and commercial aspects of projects while ensuring health, safety, and environmental standards are upheld. Experience
- Proven experience in hydrology (low flows and flood risk), hydromorphology, water quality, and/or hydroecology with a strong understanding of aquatic systems
- Skilled in the application of hydrological software and environmental modelling (hydrological, hydraulic, water quality, water resources)
- Proficient in GIS software
- Experienced in technical project delivery including bid preparation, drafting technical proposals, and project management
About you
- Strong report writing skills with the ability to clearly present complex technical information visually and orally to diverse audiences
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage resources, budgets, and project controls effectively
- Insight into how hydrological changes affect water quality, geomorphology, and hydroecology, including impacts on fish passage
- Enthusiastic team player with excellent client liaison and commercial awareness
- Commitment to health, safety, and environmental considerations in all work
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject such as geography, physical sciences, chemistry, maths, engineering, or related fields
