About the Role
Ricardo Energy & Environment is a global strategic, environmental, and engineering consulting company with over 100 years of engineering excellence. We are seeking a Principal Safety Consultant to join our team and take a leadership role in safety engineering and assurance services for rail engineering projects. This role offers the opportunity to lead safety assurance activities, contribute to major infrastructure projects, and mentor junior consultants. You will apply your expertise to enhance safety protocols, risk assessment methodologies, and project quality, working on high-profile projects such as the National Train Control Centre in Dublin, Crewe Hub remodelling, and East Coast Mainline. The role involves leading bids, managing multiple projects, and collaborating with clients and stakeholders across global projects, including Australia, the US, Canada, Asia, and the Middle East, with the flexibility to work from the UK without travel requirements. You will also lead workshops and contribute to business development activities in a supportive and inclusive environment that values diversity and work-life balance.

Experience
- Proven experience delivering safety engineering and assurance services to rail projects using standards such as EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508, and/or CSM-RA.
- Background in risk management, systems engineering, and/or safety engineering.
- Experience with major rail infrastructure projects, preferably within the UK or consultancy sector.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple activities and prioritise workload effectively.
- Experience supporting business development through proposal writing, client relationship management, and stakeholder engagement.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience in cyber security is a plus but not essential for this role.
