About the Role
JLL is seeking an experienced and proactive Site Waste Manager / Supervisor to lead the comprehensive waste management programme at our Filton, Bristol site. This strategic operational role combines hands-on leadership, regulatory compliance, financial oversight, and team management responsibilities. You will be responsible for all aspects of the waste programme, ensuring operational excellence, environmental compliance, accurate financial reporting, and the development of a high-performing team of six waste operatives. Reporting to the UK Waste Programme Manager, you will serve as the subject matter expert for waste management across the site, driving continuous improvement and maintaining exemplary standards.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Management and Leadership: Plan, coordinate, and manage all waste management activities across the site, developing operational strategies, procedures, and performance targets to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
Team Management and Development: Lead a team of six waste operatives, providing direction, task allocation, performance management, and fostering a safety-focused, cohesive team culture.
Training and Compliance: Ensure all team members maintain compliant training records, identify training needs, coordinate delivery, and uphold competency standards.
Financial Management and Reporting: Manage accurate waste data submissions, verify contractor invoices, track volumes and costs, and identify cost optimization opportunities.
Regulatory Compliance and Documentation: Maintain all waste transfer and consignment notes, ensuring full compliance with environmental legislation and duty of care requirements.
Monthly Reporting and Presentations: Produce detailed monthly waste reports and presentations for site leadership and stakeholders, analysing performance metrics and operational achievements.
Contractor Management and Coordination: Manage waste contractors, schedule collections, monitor service delivery, and ensure contractual obligations are met.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Standards: Champion a culture of safety, conduct risk assessments, investigate incidents, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Operational Problem Solving: Address operational challenges proactively, manage emergency situations, and implement contingency plans to maintain service continuity.
Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with management, contractors, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders, providing expert guidance and building collaborative relationships.

Experience
Proven experience managing waste management operations in industrial, commercial, or facilities management environments. Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams effectively. Experience managing supervisory or coordinator-level staff and delivering results through others is essential.
Comprehensive knowledge of hazardous and non-hazardous waste regulations, classification systems (EWC codes), waste hierarchy principles, and environmental compliance requirements. Experience with waste transfer notes, consignment notes, and duty of care documentation is essential. Understanding of recycling processes and waste diversion strategies is highly desirable.
Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, tracking costs, verifying invoices, and producing financial reports. Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and translate information into actionable insights. Proficiency with Excel and data management systems.
Solid understanding of health and safety requirements for waste operations, including risk assessment, incident investigation, and regulatory compliance. Relevant qualifications such as IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent are highly desirable. Experience implementing safety improvements and managing safety performance is essential.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce clear, professional reports and deliver effective presentations to diverse audiences including senior management. Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships and managing stakeholders at all levels.
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, plan complex operations, and maintain attention to detail under pressure. Strategic thinking combined with practical operational execution capabilities.
Competent with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for reporting and presentation purposes. Experience with waste management software systems or databases is advantageous. Ability to learn new systems quickly.

Qualifications
