About the Role
We are seeking a Process Shift Technician to join our team permanently at the Gateway Desalination Plant, the only desalination site in the UK. You will be responsible for the effective day-to-day operation of Thames Gateway Water Treatment Works, which uses ultrafiltration and Reverse Osmosis as part of its treatment process. Your role will involve operating SCADA systems to monitor and control processes, responding to incidents, and escalating events as necessary. At times, you will act as the responsible person on-site, directing Process Technicians to ensure services meet required standards.

Your duties will include completing daily process and water quality tests, receiving chemical deliveries, and collaborating with the maintenance team to maintain continuous and effective site operations. You will monitor, collate, and report data to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance, interpret trends on SCADA, and carry out routine tasks such as stock checks, site safety inspections, health and safety compliance, and inventory management. You will optimise plant performance and availability, manage contractors to ensure compliance with Safe Systems of Work, and undertake complex isolations to maintain plant safety.

Additional responsibilities include fault processing and advising on rectifications, assisting with capital project works, coordinating maintenance and operational personnel, raising reactive work orders, and undertaking safety and security checks. You will be expected to take responsibility for your own health and safety and that of your colleagues and undergo training in safety procedures including confined space entry.

Experience
Process and/or water treatment experience is essential. Hands-on and practical approach with strong attention to detail and troubleshooting skills. Previous experience or knowledge of SCADA systems is beneficial.

Basic literacy and numeracy skills with effective communication abilities. Ability to work unsupervised and willingness to work both day and night shifts on a 12-hour rota. Self-motivated, disciplined, and eager to learn from colleagues. Able to take ownership of faults, investigate thoroughly, and identify effective solutions. Excellent interpersonal skills to work well within a team environment.

Qualifications
Must hold a full UK driving licence. Trained in safety procedures including Confined Space Entry, or willingness to undertake such training. Fully competent in using company IT systems and Office software.
