About the Role
We are excited to be hiring a Transport Officer (Local Bus Operations) to join our dedicated Local Bus Team. The team is passionate about improving bus services and enhancing public transport for Surrey residents. This role supports the proactive management of road closures and bus stop suspensions that impact local bus services, which provide vital access to employment, education, health, and essential shopping.

You will work closely with over 20 bus operators, Highways colleagues, utility companies, and TfL to ensure the best alternative diversion routes are chosen during road closures and that communication to residents, bus operators, and the travelling public is clear and effective.

Key responsibilities include liaising with multiple agencies, creating information notices for bus passengers, and ordering bus stop maintenance parts as needed. This venue-centric role requires full-time office attendance at Victoria Gate, Woking, with a focus on delivering a responsive service to bus operators and stakeholders.

The team facilitates a sustainable local bus network, supports the introduction of zero emission buses, and keeps the public informed of service changes.

Requirements

Experience
Proven ability to work effectively as part of a dedicated team and in partnership with bus operators and a range of stakeholders. Experience in managing bus network operations and understanding the impacts of road closures on public transport is essential.
Good IT skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and experience with mapping tools. Experience using One.network is advantageous.

Enthusiastic, proactive, and motivated team player with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. Able to manage conflicting priorities and work under pressure to tight deadlines. Customer focused with confidence in maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external professionals.
Strong geographical knowledge of Surrey and its public transport networks is required.

Qualifications
No specific qualifications are mandated; however, relevant experience and skills as outlined above are essential. A positive attitude and commitment to supporting sustainable transport initiatives are highly valued.
