About the Role
Join our Design team based in Worsley, supporting Northumbrian Water and other UK utility contracts. You’ll produce high-quality wastewater designs, working collaboratively to deliver safe, compliant and cost-effective infrastructure solutions that support essential services. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical expertise while contributing to a diverse portfolio of projects.

Key responsibilities include monitoring leading industry practices, recommending new design approaches, and identifying upcoming trends. You will develop high-quality concepts, working with the team on iterations and design, actively seeking feedback from Creative and Business stakeholders. You will be involved in all design phases of projects, including project set-up, programming, design, and construction administration.

Collaboration is essential, working alongside internal design teams, client design teams, and external consultants to execute creative projects. You will provide technical design support to other team members and respond to and resolve issues with external parties such as clients, third-party organisations, and sub-contractors.

Additional duties include representing the company and arranging pre-design and walk-off meetings with clients, undertaking site investigation reports, and completing CDM documentation. You will ensure compliance with CDM 2015 throughout the design process and maintain the Health & Safety file throughout various project stages, ensuring it is up to date and available at project completion.

You will competently produce detailed design and as-laid drawings using AutoCAD in accordance with client asset design standards and procedures, including plan and longitudinal drawings to meet client specifications. Creating private land notice plans according to client processes and specifications is also required.

Liaising with clients to ensure site investigation, design, and construction phases run according to plan, providing regular detailed updates to the Project Manager and client. You will work alongside the Project Manager, Operations Manager, and Design Manager to ensure all schemes are designed within budget and time constraints set by the client.

Requirements

Experience
Experience working in the water industry on wastewater projects is essential. Proven experience in wastewater, Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs), stormwater management, and wastewater networks is required. Familiarity with relevant engineering specifications applicable to the water industry is important.

Knowledge and awareness of CDM 2015 regulations is necessary. Proficiency in AutoCAD and competence in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook are expected.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work as part of a team and organise workload across multiple projects are essential. Experience mentoring and supporting less experienced colleagues is desirable.

About you
You are a collaborative team player with excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You are organised, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and committed to delivering high-quality, compliant designs. You are willing to mentor and support junior colleagues and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications
Engineering qualifications are desirable but not essential if you have strong relevant experience in wastewater design and the water industry.
