Our ecology team works collaboratively across disciplines to ensure ecology is integrated from the earliest project stages, driving nature positive schemes we are proud of. You will work individually and within teams, managing Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs), developing and managing project programmes and budgets, and engaging with clients and stakeholders. Your role includes technical review of ecological reports and licence applications, providing expert advice on ecological assessments and habitat design for complex development and nature recovery projects. You will develop innovative ecological mitigation and compensation approaches and deliver high-quality ecological outputs in line with current guidance and good practice. Additionally, you will coach and mentor staff, support project management tasks, and contribute to business development by preparing bids and building client relationships. Requirements

Experience
- Extensive experience in protected species survey, mitigation, and licensing
- Proven track record managing ecology deliverables and projects from bidding through to completion
- Experience working on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) and familiarity with the Development Consent Order (DCO) process
- Exceptional project management skills including technical, financial, and quality assurance aspects
- Experience acting as named ecologist in complex scenarios
- Ability to undertake and advise on UKHab surveys, Preliminary Ecological Assessment, Ecological Impact Assessment, and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments
- Strong botanical skills, ideally with Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) level 3+ or equivalent ability
- Experience influencing policy makers and contributing to working groups, publications, training, media content, or guidance documents
- Demonstrable experience in work winning through bidding and maintaining strong client relationships, particularly for large frameworks or NSIPs

About you
- Passionate about ecology with exemplary knowledge of the natural environment and wildlife legislation
- Chartered or working towards chartership through the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), CEcol or CEnv
- Established connections beyond your discipline team, including external networks
- Strategic thinker able to deliver within ecology and the wider Environment Practice
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams and engage stakeholders
- Holds a full UK/EEC driving licence

Qualifications
- Chartered status through CIEEM, CEcol, or CEnv preferred or actively working towards it
- Relevant ecological and botanical qualifications or demonstrable equivalent experience
