You will work both individually and as part of a team, engaging directly with clients to understand their requirements and leveraging internal expertise to deliver solutions. Responsibilities include leading large projects or frameworks, managing project programmes and budgets, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, and engaging stakeholders. You will undertake technical checks and reviews of ecological reports and licence applications, conduct ecological assessments and habitat design for development and nature recovery projects, and support innovative ecological mitigation and compensation approaches. Delivering clear, high-quality ecological outputs in line with current guidance and best practice is essential. You may also coach and mentor colleagues and manage tasks and projects from inception to completion. This role may require security clearance, dependent on the level required. The vetting process is conducted by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require proof of UK residency for five years or longer. Experience
- Demonstrable passion for ecology and strong working knowledge of the natural environment and wildlife legislation
- Experience working on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects and familiarity with the Development Consent Order (DCO) process is desirable
- Proven ability to undertake and advise on UKHab surveys, Preliminary Ecological Assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments, and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments
- Strong botanical skills, ideally holding Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) level 3+ or equivalent botanical ability
- Experience in protected species survey, mitigation, and licensing
- Strong project management skills including technical, financial, and quality assurance aspects
- Experience in work winning through bidding and maintaining strong client relationships
- Ability to manage ecology deliverables and projects from bidding through to completion
About you
- Chartered or working towards chartership through the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), CEcol or CEnv
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage clients and stakeholders effectively
- Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently when required
- Committed to delivering high-quality ecological advice and outputs
- Holds a full UK/EEC driving licence
Qualifications
- Chartered status with CIEEM, CEcol or CEnv, or actively working towards this professional accreditation
- Relevant ecological and botanical qualifications supporting the role requirements
