About the Role
Drive sustainable solutions in nuclear waste management with AECOM – lead, innovate, and transform. Join our established and expanding Nuclear team as an Associate Nuclear Waste Consultant, taking a key leadership role in delivering a diverse portfolio of international and UK-based projects. You will manage and support multi-disciplinary projects across all stages of the project lifecycle, from early client consultancy and strategic advisory support through to comprehensive turn-key solutions and project delivery.

Your responsibilities include technical delivery, client engagement, project management, bid support, and ensuring compliance with AECOM’s standards for quality, safety, and environmental care. You will support business growth, maintain strong client relationships, and contribute to the success of our nuclear waste and decommissioning portfolio.

Work collaboratively with top-tier civil, mechanical, electrical, and process engineers on projects ranging from small initiatives to large-scale ventures, from concept to completion. Key duties include managing complex nuclear waste projects, providing technical leadership in waste characterisation, treatment, storage, and disposal, developing waste management strategies, conducting technical assessments and risk evaluations, acting as a client liaison, preparing technical reports, advising on regulatory compliance, supporting business development, and mentoring junior staff.

Requirements

Experience
- Extensive relevant experience in radioactive waste management within regulated and quality-assured environments
- Experience working on UK nuclear licensed sites or strong knowledge of UK Site Licence Companies
- Experience operating waste management facilities or supporting related studies
- Proven track record in consultancy commissions, project management, and nuclear decommissioning projects
- Experience facilitating optioneering workshops, stakeholder engagement, regulator engagement, licensing, and environmental permitting activities
- Competency in waste management studies including strategy development, integrated waste strategies, and radioactive waste inventory development
- Experience in environmental studies such as Best Available Technique (BAT) assessments and Environmental Aspects identification

Qualifications
- Minimum HNC qualification, preferably supported by a relevant science or engineering degree
- Strong technical knowledge and leadership capability
- Demonstrated competency in technical governance, project delivery, health and safety responsibilities, document review, financial and technical project management, cost control, programme management, and client liaison
- Waste management expertise including solid, liquid, gaseous waste management, waste strategy, compliance, treatment, storage, transport, disposal, inventory, and characterisation
- Environmental expertise including BAT/BPM, Environmental Aspects identification, and Environmental Safety Cases
