About the Role
Costain is experiencing continued growth across all sectors and is seeking a Civil & Structural Engineer to join our multi-discipline engineering and design team within the Civil and Structural Design Discipline of CEL. This role involves delivering design outputs ranging from studies to detailed design for permanent and temporary works across various projects, primarily in water, rail, and highways sectors. The team focuses on sustainable, safe-by-design solutions with a strong constructability ethos.
The core responsibility is to deliver civil and structural analysis, calculations, reports, and specifications. Rail experience and permanent works design experience (foundations, fencing, ducting, drainage, highways for substations or similar) are highly desirable.
This is a hybrid role based in Manchester, offering a supportive environment where you will be supervised and mentored by senior engineers. You will prepare design analysis, calculations, specifications, and related documentation, communicate designs effectively to BIM teams, challenge and deliver value engineering solutions, and contribute to project success through collaboration and innovation.
Experience
- Some UK experience in design of foundations, drainage, highways, steel and concrete is an advantage
- Previous UK engineering experience from employers or work placements
- Ability to accurately report progress, risks, opportunities, and changes
- Digital proficiency in multiple design systems/software
- Ability to lead design meetings and deliver presentations
- Rail experience and site or construction experience are desirable
- Eligibility to obtain Security Clearance (UK citizen or UK resident for minimum 5 years)

Qualifications
- Essential: Minimum BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Desirable: Additional technically focused qualifications or training
- Safety passport or similar is desirable
