About the Role
HS2 is Great Britain’s new high-speed railway, providing journeys between Birmingham and London, with services extending to Manchester, the Northwest, and Scotland via the conventional railway. The new route includes 140 miles of track, four stations, two depots, 32 miles of tunnel, and 130 bridges. The first HS2 services will operate between Birmingham Curzon Street and Old Oak Common in London between 2029 and 2033. HS2 is procuring approximately 12 railway systems contracts worth over £4 billion for design, supply, construction, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of the London to Birmingham route. Costain has been awarded two major packages: Package 2 (Tunnel and Lineside Mechanical & Electrical Fitout) and Package 3 (High Voltage Traction and Non-Traction Power Distribution).
Reporting to the Systems Integration and Assurance Manager, the Systems Engineer (Requirements & Configuration) will work closely with project engineering, design teams, and specialists to elicit, analyse, and document requirements for Package 3. This role leads change and configuration management, managing the technical change process and maintaining configuration management for the contract. You will develop and implement Requirements Management and Configuration/Change Management processes aligned with Costain and HS2 standards.
Key responsibilities include ensuring the application of Requirements and Configuration Management Plans, collaborating with design teams and subcontractors to allocate requirements and define verification and validation activities, producing Verification Validation Matrices and Configuration Status Reports, reporting on process performance, maintaining change and configuration registers, driving innovation in management approaches, and delivering training to promote awareness of processes within the project team. The role also involves fostering collaborative working relationships within the project and with HS2 Subject Matter Experts.
Experience
- Experienced in the use of DOORS for managing project requirements
- Proven application of configuration and change management processes in major projects
- High standard of verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, able to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences
- Strong information management and analytical skills, able to efficiently extract relevant information from large volumes of project data
- Capable of working collaboratively and effectively with project delivery teams, management, and leadership, with credibility in building relationships across all stakeholder levels
