As a Civil/Structural Principal Engineer within our Power and Energy Solutions Practice, you will lead engineering design and management activities, overseeing a team to deliver high-quality solutions compliant with project and company standards. You will provide technical leadership and assurance across Front End and Detailed Design projects for AIS/GIS HV Substations (up to 400kV), HVDC converter stations, and more.

Based in Glasgow, Birmingham, or Leeds, you will build strong, trusted relationships with clients and colleagues, working both on-site and from offices. Your role includes leading discipline improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with Grid standards, and supporting the delivery of technically compliant design deliverables.

Experience
- Proven track record leading teams to produce complex designs and drawings compliant with engineering codes and standards.
- Experience delivering Front-End Engineering and Detailed Design of EHV (33kV-400kV) substation projects.
- Knowledge of Principal Designer duties under CDM2015 is desirable.
- Strong technical background in steel and reinforced concrete design using industry-recognised software and relevant UK/international codes.
- Experience maintaining and developing client relationships.
- Experience coaching and developing junior engineers/designers.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Flexibility to travel to client sites as required.

About you
- Degree qualified Civil or Structural Engineer, ideally with a Master’s degree (MEng/MSc).
- Chartered Engineer status and membership of ICE or IStructE is desirable.
- Comfortable working in dynamic environments with a desire to contribute to business success.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to deliver results within budget and timelines.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and innovation skills.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage competing priorities effectively.

Qualifications
- Degree qualified Civil or Structural Engineer (MEng/MSc preferred).
- Chartered Engineer and Member of ICE or IStructE desirable.
- Currently hold BP141 / TP141 HV Substation qualification (or equivalent), or have knowledge and experience to obtain.
- Currently working as LCDAE or CDAE, or have knowledge and experience to do so.
- Security clearance may be required for this role; this will be discussed during the interview process.
