About the Role
The Anglian Water Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) project involves the planning, design and construction of approximately 320km of new strategic, large diameter, clean water interconnector pipelines and associated infrastructure across Anglian Water’s region. The SPA Alliance is also responsible for future interconnector pipelines, adding a further 260km of strategic interconnector pipelines and infrastructure.
As Design Manager, you will take the lead on design delivery of the Infra or Non-Infra element of major potable water transfer projects with values up to £200M. You will work collaboratively with the Head of Engineering, Design Manager, and Senior Designers to understand design needs and manage the design team for your section of the SPA delivery programme from feasibility through to construction and commissioning.
The role requires close collaboration across the wider project delivery team including project management, construction, enabling, planning, commercial and procurement teams. You will promote collaborative working and value-for-money decisions in line with the Framework Contract, develop strong relationships with Anglian Water operational stakeholders to support design decision making and client sign-off, and drive continuous improvement by challenging the status quo and introducing change where necessary.
You will keep abreast of innovations within the water industry and beyond, and foster an inclusive and open working culture where everyone feels valued and can contribute their best work.
Experience
- Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary design teams
- Track record managing sections of design works throughout the Design Phase, including civil, mechanical, process, electrical and control aspects
- Experience delivering projects with a production methodology mindset, including modular designs
- Skilled in problem-solving, lateral thinking, communication, presentation and stakeholder management
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and collaborative environments is desirable
- Understanding of design interactions throughout the project lifecycle is desirable
- Previous experience within the water industry is advantageous

Qualifications
- Educated to degree level in engineering or a related subject, or equivalent through an engineering or management apprenticeship with industry experience
- Chartered membership of a professional institute such as MICE, IMechE, MCIOB or equivalent is desirable
- Related project management or risk management training is desirable
