About the Role
Join AECOM’s thriving Streets team within the Transportation Business Line as an enthusiastic Engineer based in Birmingham. The team is expanding to meet increased demand, particularly in Active Travel, Bus User Priority, Highway Improvement, and Infrastructure schemes. You will contribute to concept, preliminary and detailed designs, community engagement, project delivery, and construction management across a diverse range of multi-disciplinary transportation and traffic engineering projects. Recognised as market leaders, the team delivers impactful projects for local and national clients.
You will provide design and technical input on a wide range of projects, developing Active Travel and traffic engineering schemes from concept through to detailed design and implementation. Responsibilities include managing technical outputs, mentoring early-career team members, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, sustainable transport solutions. This role suits a self-motivated individual eager to utilise the latest technologies and advance their career within a dynamic team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and delivery of Roads, Traffic Engineering, Active Travel, and Urban Realm schemes
- Preparation of technical outputs including drawings, reports, and specifications
- Ensuring all work meets project briefs, design standards, and regulatory requirements
- Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across AECOM and external stakeholders
- Delegation and coordination of tasks for graduates and technicians, supporting their development
- Championing Health & Safety best practices, including CDM responsibilities
- Regular reporting to the Project Manager on progress and risks

Experience
- Proven experience in scoping, preliminary, and detailed design of Roads, Active Travel, and Traffic Engineering schemes
- Experience in infrastructure for walking, cycling, bus priority, and traffic calming
- Strong knowledge of design elements such as drainage, junctions, and carriageway improvements
- Familiarity with relevant design standards including TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, MCHW, LTN 1/20, and CDM Regulations
- Understanding of Health & Safety and CDM regulations

Qualifications
- Relevant degree in engineering or related discipline
- Working towards Incorporated or Chartered status with a recognised Professional Institution or equivalent industry experience
