About the Role
The Environmental and Sustainability Lead is responsible for establishing and overseeing the project's sustainability and environmental strategy and implementation. This includes developing and reforming systems and processes that drive innovation and best practice in line with the requirements of HS2 and Mace Dragados. The role supports the Stakeholder & Engagement Lead, Mace Dragados colleagues, and the supply chain to ensure environmental compliance with the Environment Management Systems (EMS) and Environmental Management Requirements (EMR). Key responsibilities include leading the production, maintenance, and compliance of all Environmental Management Plans, ensuring adherence to HS2 Environmental Minimum Requirements, managing incident and complaint investigations, overseeing site monitoring and audits, reviewing method statements, and integrating environmental milestones into the project programme. The role also involves contributing to environmental good practice guides, managing environmental enquiries, providing regular reporting, maintaining environmental risk logs, leading carbon management efforts including PAS 2080 and BREEAM certification, and ensuring effective stakeholder record management.

About the Project
Curzon Street station is a new £800m HS2 project located in Birmingham city centre. As part of the HS2 network connecting London and the North, this station will act as a catalyst for development across the East side of Birmingham. Curzon Street aims to be a centre of excellence for best practice reporting and management models within the HS2 programme.
Experience
- Delivering a PAS 2080 approach to carbon management and meeting carbon targets
- Delivering BREEAM certification
- Project management skills
- Strong data and database management skills
- Experience with Environmental Management Systems compliant with ISO14001:2015
- Excellent knowledge of environmental legal requirements
- Skilled in investigating environmental situations and root causes
- Construction site experience for infrastructure projects and major construction projects is desirable

Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent, typically in an environmental discipline or related field
- Professional membership of an appropriate environmental body (e.g., MIEMA)
- Appropriate CSCS card type and level
- Additional specialist environmental qualifications and knowledge of archaeology, air quality, noise and vibration, surface and groundwater, contaminated land, waste, ecology, built heritage legislation/monitoring, SEDEX, and responsible procurement standards are advantageous
