London office with site and client visits. Hybrid working with approximately three days in the office/client site and two days working from home. Flexible and hybrid working options are open for discussion if suitable within the role.

About the Role
Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. We are seeking an experienced Senior Net Zero Manager with a strong building services background to lead the delivery of an increasing number of Net Zero carbon projects and programmes across the Private Sector. You will join our Net Zero Retrofit team within the c.175 people strong Responsible Business Team.

This role involves leading Net Zero projects, managing a multidisciplinary team to deliver Net Zero Roadmaps for clients, maintaining client relationships, and ensuring high-quality outcomes. You will collaborate with internal and external project and design teams to produce clear, deliverable Net Zero Roadmaps that help clients achieve their sustainability goals and ambitions.

The Net Zero Retrofit team includes energy managers, architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, energy auditors, and energy modelers. We deliver Net Zero projects nationally and globally across public and private sectors including government departments, local authorities, and private developers.

A key aspect of this role is the ability to translate complex technical engineering topics into clear, effective communication that enables key stakeholders to make informed decisions.

You will be responsible for managing the delivery of our Net Zero Retrofit service through the development of Net Zero Roadmaps and programmes for individual buildings to global property portfolios. This includes project leadership, client-facing responsibilities, supporting business growth, conducting Net Zero audits and feasibility studies, detailed energy data analysis, researching low carbon technologies, incorporating financial analysis, reporting on asset performance against industry targets, providing technical assurance, and championing sustainability initiatives within Mace and externally.

Additional responsibilities include line management, upskilling colleagues, representing Mace at relevant forums, and supporting the digitization of Mace’s Net Zero Retrofit service.

Requirements

Experience
- Strong building services engineering background with over 5 years of relevant experience.
- Proven track record delivering net zero roadmaps and energy audits with measurable outcomes.
- Detailed knowledge of building energy systems and energy reduction opportunities across various building types and sectors.
- Experience managing client relationships and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong project and time management skills.
- Familiarity with industry frameworks such as SBTi, NZCBS, CRREM, and RIBA.
- Experience in client account management and business development.

Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering or related discipline.
- Professional memberships such as EMA, CIBSE, ASHRAE, EI, GRI, CISL, or a postgraduate degree are highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of sustainable building design including embodied and operational carbon, energy reduction strategies, and the impacts on programme, cost, and operations for new build and refurbishment projects.
