About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to shape a unique and rewarding career. We are expanding our UK flood forecasting capability within the Sustainable Water Management team and are seeking experienced flood forecast modellers and hydrologists at all levels. You will deliver and grow our national programme of real-time modelling projects, collaborating with fluvial and pluvial specialists, hydrologists, and modellers across the UK and internationally. This role offers varied, meaningful work that improves flood warning, strengthens national resilience, and supports major infrastructure, government, and water sector clients.
You will work on high-impact, real-time flood forecasting projects that directly support public safety and national infrastructure. You will help develop and influence our forecasting services by shaping technical approaches, introducing innovation, and contributing to the growth of our forecasting capability. Collaboration with experts across the UK and globally is a key aspect, as you will be part of WSP’s international Practice Area Network in flood and weather forecasting.
This role offers opportunities to grow your leadership and technical profile through mentoring junior colleagues and taking technical ownership of projects. WSP provides a supportive environment with real career progression, valuing development and offering the structure and opportunities for motivated individuals to thrive.
Your work will include delivering and leading flood forecast modelling and hydrology studies using tools such as Flood Modeller, PDM, and hydrodynamic routing; preparing and reviewing model boundaries; undertaking rating reviews and performance testing; carrying out quality assurance and independent technical reviews; producing clear client and public-facing deliverables; supporting the development of WSP’s flood forecasting service offering; mentoring less experienced modellers; supporting or leading bid proposals; managing project delivery including commercial, financial, and stakeholder aspects; collaborating with UK and international teams; and promoting a safety-first approach in line with WSP policies.
Our national fluvial and pluvial modelling team supports a broad portfolio of work including flood warning improvements, FCERM studies, and strategic infrastructure projects across energy, transport, government, and water sectors. As an experienced flood forecast modeller, you will contribute to the growing UK real-time modelling capacity and support junior colleagues within a dynamic and supportive environment.
WSP is one of the world’s leading engineering and professional services firms, with over 72,800 passionate people globally and more than 9,000 professionals across the UK and Ireland.
