We are seeking a high-calibre junior-level economist to join our growing Environmental Policy and Economics team based in Brussels. This team works globally in collaboration with colleagues across the UK, Europe and Canada, providing robust, impartial and influential advice on policy development and strategic response across the full policy lifecycle including development, assessment, implementation, review, evaluation and revision.

Located in the heart of Brussels, you will be involved in EU projects from day one, supported by training, career development and personal support services to help you become a recognised expert in your fields of interest. The team is expanding with a strong forward workload and ambitious growth strategy.

In this role you will:
- Work in multi-disciplinary teams contributing to policy development, implementation and evaluation; economic analysis; cost-benefit analysis; data collection and analysis; socio-economic assessment; stakeholder consultation; report writing and presentations.
- Support delivery of environmental policy projects at national and international levels for clients including international organisations (OECD, United Nations), EU institutions and agencies (European Commission, European Chemicals Agency, European Environment Agency), national governments (Canada, EU Member States, UK) and the private sector.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders from public and private sectors, building relationships to identify new business opportunities.
- Support winning new projects through proposal writing and presentations, and represent WSP at relevant EU policy forums, conferences and meetings.

Requirements

Experience
Experience in consultancy or relevant industry with a core background in environmental economics. This may include roles in consultancy, government, research agencies/think tanks, NGOs, private sector or relevant placements.
Knowledge of economic theory and socio-economic techniques applied to environmental and other policies at national and/or international level, including cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analysis, ex-post evaluation, impact assessment, valuation of human health and social/environmental effects of policies, and assessing economic competitiveness.

About you
A strong interest in developing a career in environmental policy, with knowledge of the policy landscape related to thematic areas such as chemicals and water policy, industrial emissions, air quality, waste, circular economy, taxonomy, biodiversity, climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Demonstrable research skills and understanding of analytical techniques including data collection, validation, analysis and synthesis, literature review, stakeholder consultations, survey dissemination, market analysis, socio-economic analysis and regulatory impact assessment.
Familiarity with national and international sources of government and business statistics is desirable.
Strong mathematical skills including quantitative analysis, data management and statistical modelling.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to take initiative, plan work, meet deadlines and work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present findings, policy recommendations and project updates clearly to clients, stakeholders and the public.
Strong expertise in policy evaluation and impact assessment methodologies using data-driven approaches.

Qualifications
A postgraduate qualification in environmental economics or economics is essential.
An undergraduate degree in environmental science, environmental management, technology, economics, engineering, policy or law is desirable.
A focus on microeconomics and/or economics for public policy is an advantage.
