About the Role
The HV Coordinator will oversee electrical safety during the construction and commissioning of critical Water and Wastewater infrastructure. You will ensure compliance with statutory regulations, industry standards, and CMDP’s policies and procedures. Reporting directly to the parent company Designated Individuals, you will act as the regional electrical Health & Safety management focal point to maintain standards and compliance.
Key responsibilities include administration and maintenance of electrical safety rules, monitoring the use of LV Electrical Safety Rules, and ensuring amendments are communicated and understood by all Responsible and Authorised Persons. You will provide technical and quality support to Project, M&E, and Site Managers and manage M&E subcontractors to meet safety, quality, and design requirements.
As the central figure supporting CMDP’s H&S team on electrical safety matters, you will review project resources and competencies to ensure appropriate Permit issuers are in place and identify specialist activities and process areas requiring independent hazard studies. You will engage with key stakeholders on related Safe Systems of Work such as Hydraulics and ATEX/DSEAR, attend Parent Company Authorising Engineer review panels, and work closely with the SHEQ team on incident investigations to integrate lessons learnt into procedures.
Additional duties include providing professional and technical guidance on electrical construction and contracting delivery, overseeing documentation, inspection, and testing procedures to maintain project quality, reviewing quality plans, undertaking Authorised Person audits, and assisting procurement in competence vetting of supply chain partners. You will work with supply chains on quality management and certification reviews, actively engage in commissioning quality, and provide regular feedback to Framework Commissioning and MEICA Managers on potential project challenges.
You will deliver technical bulletins, toolbox talks, and briefings, respond to incidents or observations, and keep procedures aligned with current guidance and industry practice. Identifying competencies and training needs for key project personnel, you will support interviewing, training, competence assessment, and appointment of potential Authorised Persons.
Experience
Extensive on-site experience within the Electrical Installation industry. Recent experience working as an Authorising Engineer or an experienced Authorised Person. Proven auditing skills and familiarity with the Water Sector Regulations. Field experience of LV/HV power system commissioning, testing, and operation. Experience in HV safety management and development of HV safety controls and policy.
About you
Strong technical background with knowledge of Low Voltage systems (BS7671), earthing systems (BS7430), HV awareness, switching schedules, equipment, fault currents, signal injection, and safe systems of work. Ability to verify safe systems of work and demonstrate a good understanding of UK health and safety legislation. Capable of carrying out risk assessments and proposing risk control/management actions. Excellent communication skills to deliver technical guidance and training.
Qualifications
HND, HNC, C+G Level 3 in Electrical Engineering or similar. IET Wiring Regulation - 18th Edition certification. Knowledge of PUWER regulations, Portable Appliance Testing, COSHH, and comprehensive knowledge of EAWR 1989.
